A school year gets typed into a Word planner, then a staff calendar, then the website — three times, and they drift apart by week four. This is one grid that produces all three.
The staff development day is withheld from the website because its row says Staff — not because someone remembered to leave it out.

A pupil-free day is tagged Staff and never reaches parents. A swimming carnival is tagged Students and Parents and appears on the public calendar the moment the term is published. The audience is a property of the row, not a second piece of work.
Assembly every second Monday is a single series. Change the time once and every instance moves. Delete one instance and the rest stay — the grid asks which you meant before it does anything.
Most schools keep the year planner in a Word table. Import it and the rows land in the grid with their dates parsed. Re-running the import does not duplicate the year, and a run can be undone in one step.
The laminated year planner on the staffroom wall is not going away. Print the term or the year straight from the grid, and export CSV for whoever still wants a spreadsheet.
